YW Youth Leadership Program

Creating community leaders

An educational program that trains teens to develop the knowledge and skills to become violence prevention advocates and peer educators in our community. The program uses creative and experiential learning activities to develop teens' violence prevention leadership skills. Our programming schedule includes our summer programming in partnership with the City of Evanston (MSYEP) and our after-school program with Spring and Fall sessions. Concepts and skills taught covered include: 

  • Identity, Status, and Privilege

  • Types of and root causes of violence

  • Equity and restorative justice practices

  • Substance use and mental health harm reduction

  • Building Healthy Relationships

  • Identifying & resources for unhealthy/abusive relationships

  • Boundaries and Consent

  • Gender and sexuality

  • Reproduction, contraception, and STIs

  • Media and porn literacy

  • Minors’ rights and resources

  • Advocacy and community engagement

YWCA currently hosts our Youth Leadership Program in the fall, spring, and summer (the summer program is part of City of Evanston's Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program).
